About Bengaluru Baath

Cinema. Culture. Chaos. And everything worth talking about.

Bengaluru Baath is a digital entertainment and pop-culture publication. We write about Indian cinema, the people who make it, the audiences who argue about it, and the culture that grows around it. We publish for readers who watch everything, follow everything and have opinions about all of it.

What Bengaluru Baath Is

Bengaluru Baath is an independent digital publication covering Indian cinema and entertainment, built out of Bengaluru and reporting across the country. We cover Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi and Odia cinema, pan-India releases and international film, along with OTT, music, fashion, celebrity, culture, reviews, box office and the business of the entertainment industry.

The name is local. The beat is not. Bengaluru is where we sit, where our newsroom instincts were formed, and where a great deal of India’s film, music, streaming and internet culture now collides. But a Bengaluru Baath reader is as likely to be tracking a Malayalam release in Kochi as a Kannada release in Mysuru or a Hindi film’s opening weekend in Mumbai.

Why Bengaluru Baath Exists

Indian entertainment coverage has never been louder. It has not always been clearer. A great deal of what circulates is a press note with a headline attached, a screenshot repackaged as news, or a number nobody can source. We started Bengaluru Baath because there is room for entertainment journalism that is fast and fun without being careless.

We do not think readers need to choose between a publication that is enjoyable to read and one that tells them the truth. Our intention is to do both: write with personality, and stand behind what we publish.

Who Bengaluru Baath Is For

We write for people who take entertainment seriously enough to want it covered properly, and not so seriously that they want it covered joylessly. That includes:

  • Readers who follow films across languages rather than in one industry alone.
  • People who care about how a film performed, not only that it released.
  • Streaming viewers deciding what is worth their evening.
  • Readers who follow fashion, music and internet culture as part of the same conversation.
  • Industry professionals, publicists, marketers and students who need context rather than noise.

What We Cover

  • Indian cinema: Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi, Odia and pan-India films.
  • International cinema and global entertainment that matters to Indian audiences.
  • OTT and streaming: releases, originals, licensing shifts and viewing trends.
  • Music, fashion and celebrity culture.
  • Reviews and critical writing.
  • Box office and the business of entertainment.
  • Bengaluru’s own film, music, event and culture scene.
  • Events, trends and internet culture.

Our Editorial Approach

We are not interested in only recording what happened. Anyone can do that, and by the time we publish, most readers already know. The questions we try to answer are the ones that follow:

  • Why does this matter?
  • What is the audience actually saying?
  • What do the numbers say, and who is reporting them?
  • What is happening behind the headline?

Our tone is direct, conversational and often cheeky. Our standards are not. Tone is a style choice; accuracy is not negotiable. Where something is reported rather than confirmed, we say so. Where a figure is an estimate, we call it an estimate. Where we are giving an opinion, we make it obvious that it is an opinion.

We cover mainstream entertainment and emerging voices with the same attention. A first film with no marketing budget can be the most interesting story of the week, and we would rather find it than wait for a press release about it.

Our Approach to Entertainment Journalism

Entertainment reporting works best when it is treated as reporting. We attribute claims to their sources, quote people accurately and in context, and distinguish between what a person said, what someone said about them and what the internet decided was true.

We also try to be fair to the people we write about. Criticism of work is part of the job. Commentary on a person’s private life, health, relationships or family, where it has nothing to do with their work, generally is not.

Rumours and Unverified Information

Entertainment is an industry built on speculation, and speculation moves faster than confirmation. Our working rule is simple: if we cannot stand behind it, we do not print it as fact.

  • Unconfirmed information is clearly labelled as unconfirmed, reported or speculative.
  • We attribute reports to the outlet or source that carried them rather than presenting them as our own reporting.
  • We do not fabricate quotes, sources, casting news, box-office figures or documents.
  • Where a claim cannot be verified to our satisfaction, we would rather leave it out than dress it up.
  • Where credible sources conflict, we prefer to show the disagreement rather than quietly pick a side.

Our Approach to Reviews

A Bengaluru Baath review is one informed opinion, written honestly. It is not a scientific measurement and it does not claim to be the final word on anything.

  • Reviews and ratings reflect the reviewer’s editorial assessment.
  • A rating is a shorthand for the argument made in the review, not a substitute for it.
  • Reviews are written independently of any commercial relationship with the film, studio, platform or brand concerned.
  • Where a screening, travel or access was provided by a studio, platform or publicist, we disclose it where it is relevant to the reader.

Sponsored and Commercial Content

Advertising pays for journalism, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. What we will not do is let a reader mistake an advertisement for editorial.

  • Sponsored, branded and paid content is clearly identified as such using labels including Sponsored, Brand Partner, Paid Partnership or Advertorial.
  • Advertising relationships do not buy favourable reviews or editorial coverage.
  • Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team, separately from commercial conversations.
  • Where a commercial partnership is specifically for branded content, that content is labelled and presented as branded content.

Our Relationship with Aadyaa Communications

Bengaluru Baath is a venture of Aadyaa Communications, a marketing and communications company. Aadyaa provides the platform, the investment and the operational backing that allow the publication to exist.

Editorial judgement on the publication sits with the Bengaluru Baath editorial team. Where a story involves Aadyaa Communications, its clients or its commercial partners in a material way, our practice is to disclose that relationship to readers within the story rather than leave it unstated.

Our Recurring Sections

Some of what we publish runs as recurring formats, so readers know where to find what they came for.

Format What it is
Featured Story Long-form researched features built around a single real question. Big stories, bigger questions.
The Hot Cakes What the entertainment internet is actually talking about right now.
The Baath Our take. Opinion, commentary and argument, clearly flagged as such.
Fashion Meter A recurring rundown of entertainment fashion moments, rated and written short.
What To Watch Curated viewing recommendations across theatres and streaming.
Movie Release Calendar What is releasing, when, and in which languages.
OTT Picks Streaming releases worth your evening, with reasons.
Reviews Film, series and OTT reviews written as editorial opinion.
Box Office Collection reporting, trends and business context, with figures attributed to their sources.

Our Editorial Promise

This is what we hold ourselves to. It is a standard, not a marketing line, and readers are welcome to hold us to it.

  • We verify important information before publishing it.
  • We distinguish clearly between fact, report and opinion.
  • We attribute quotes to the people who said them and to where they were said.
  • We link to sources where it is appropriate and useful.
  • We correct significant factual errors when they are brought to our attention and verified.
  • We do not knowingly publish fabricated information, invented quotes or invented figures.
  • We respect copyright and the rights of photographers, studios, platforms and other rights holders.
  • We clearly identify sponsored and commercial content.

If you believe we have published something inaccurate, tell us. Our corrections process is set out on the Contact page.

What Readers Can Expect

  • Coverage that spans Indian cinema rather than one industry.
  • Writing with a point of view, and clarity about when it is a point of view.
  • Context and numbers, sourced rather than asserted.
  • Reviews written independently of commercial relationships.
  • Clear labelling of anything paid for.
  • Corrections when we get something wrong.

What Bengaluru Baath Wants to Become

The ambition is to become a publication that Indian entertainment audiences trust for the story behind the story, and that the industry reads because it is accurate. We want to be the place where a reader goes when a film breaks out, a film collapses, a casting decision makes no sense or a trend arrives before anyone has named it.

We are building this in public and at our own pace. What we will not do is buy speed with accuracy.
